Day 290 – Triathlon Sprint

June 3rd, 2017 – The time has come. After 12-weeks of training I can finally cross off doing a triathlon from my Epic Quest of Awesome. It was one helluva journey and I ended up learning a lot from this experience. Plan on making a post detailing more about my experience over at my main blog some time soon.

Day 289 – Last Swimming Session

May 31st, 2017 – With a few days left until my triathlon I only have one more swim left in my program.  This swim was one last open water swim for 500 meters. Luckily for me, the water was mildly warm allowing for a comfortable swim. This last swim session also marks 3 total months of consecutive swimming. 3 more months until I knock off the next quest!


Day 273 – Owning Up to the Challenge

April 13th, 2017 – A few weeks ago my friend, and Spartan Race team member, set up a challenge to do 30 Burpees a day every single day until race day. I’ve been neglecting my last 3 days of strength training and burpees in favor of studying for my finals so I had quite a few to pay back.

This morning I went for my swim and 1-mile walk. After my walk around the park I decided to complete my 100 burpees(Rounded it up by 10).  It took me about 9 minutes to complete my set of burpees then took some time to stretch out and head back home to get ready for work.


Day 265 – Recreational Lap Swimming

April 3rd, 2017 – The University was holding a medallion hunt so this evening my fiancee and I left off to search for the prize. After a bit of searching she and I left to a planetarium show happening on campus. We enjoyed our share of vegetables and star gazing before leaving off to my brother’s place to use the pool. I convinced my brother to workout with me for some weight lifting and jogging.

I still had to fit in my swimming for the day, but the pool was a bit crowded. To kill some time, the three of us watched an episode of the Ultimate Beastmaster then went back for some lap swimming.

Day 260 – Morning Swim

March 27th, 2017 – Woke up at 6 A.M. for a morning swim. I found out that there’s a nearby high school that offers open lap swim for just a few bucks. I must admit, swimming in the morning felt a little more difficult than doing my usual evening swims. Despite giving myself a long warm up, my body was still not use to waking up and working out. Just a thing I need to get use to!

Next to the locker room there was an inspirational quote painted on the side of the wall. I snapped a picture before heading out to get ready for work.

Day 255 – 10 Rounds

March 16th, 2017 – Tonight was my 2nd swimming workout for my first week of triathlon training. Last swim I had an issue trying to keep track of my set number on top of tracking rests and total swim time. To combat against this, I grabbed 10 pennies and laid them out on the edge of the pool. After each completed set I put one penny on top of another until all my pennies were in one stack. Ended up being a very tremendous help!


Day 252 – Beginning of a Regime

March 13th, 2017 – Today begins the first day of my 12-week workout triathlon program. I am following the program from Gale Bernhardt’s Multisport Training Plans for this triathlon. Today includes having to swim 10 intervals for a total of 500m.

After my Krav Maga class I put in a quick strength training workout before heading to a nearby community center for swimming. It’s been a while since I’ve went swimming but it seemed like my freestyle technique has not worsened. Ended up putting in a pretty good time overall.
