June 13, 2016 – There’s a little park named named Ramsdell that is easy to pass by. Ramsdell park places itself right next to Kordiak park and across from Columbia Heights High School This park is compacted with a baseball field and a wading pool all while being across the street from two schools. This makes it one of the more widely used parks of the city despite it’s size.
Today I decided I will make the jog over there instead of going through Kodiak Park. I found a memorial statue with a short memorial description. Ramsdell Park, was named after the officer, Curtis Ramsdell, who was shot while transporting a drunk driver. The suspect who shot him was arrested and pleaded guilty for second degree murder. He was sentenced to 40 years. After doing the math of his arrest I realize that the suspect would be ending his 40 year sentence next year in 2017.
